G4C Awards 2019 celebrate construction industry's rising stars

3 EN:Able Futures apprentices shortlisted and Trade Apprentice Highly Commended in highly sought after awards

The EN:Able Futures team were delighted to join over 200 guests at the Mercure Hotel in Sheffield for an exciting evening on Friday 8 March to celebrate young people in the construction industry at the 5th annual G4C awards.

The evening was hosted by Mark Clemmit of BBC Football and the Co-chairs of G4C Yorkshire and the Humber, Lydia McGuinness and Tim Guest, who welcomed the award nominees, their colleagues, friends and families.

The EN:Able Futures team were proud to be there to support 3 of their current apprentices in their Shared Apprenticeship Service and Housing and Infrastructure Academy who were shortlisted for an award.

Callum Wood, a Level 2 Apprentice Joiner with Starfish Group, was Highly Commended in the Trade Apprentice of the Year category.  Callum was not able to attend the event, so his Development Coach Jennifer Drake was honoured to collect the award on his behalf.

Hayden Brook, a Level 3 Apprentice Civil Engineer with Howard Civil Engineering, was shortlisted in the Level 3 Technical Apprentice of the Year category.  This category was highly sought after with competition being high, it was the category with both the highest number of entrants and shortlisted apprentices.  Hayden did not win this time but being shortlisted is an excellent result for an apprentice with less than one year’s experience.

Amelia Johnson-Lynch, a Level 3 Construction Management Apprentice with Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, was shortlisted in the Future Leader Category. This award was the pinnacle of the event and announced at the very end of the awards ceremony. Amelia was the youngest entrant and the judges felt she was a shining example of what a future leader is and, if she continued to follow her current path, she would achieve great success in the future.

EN:Able Futures were also sponsors of the Higher Education Student of the Year award.  Operations Manager Julie Deeley was very pleased to present awards to the winner Cathie Johnson of RLB and Highly Commended Peter Wyles of WYG on behalf of the company.

Julie commented: “Congratulations to all the young people nominated for an award this year.  We are especially proud of the 3 EN:Able Futures apprentices who have all shown exceptional commitment and outstanding ability.  They should be as proud of themselves as we are of their achievements. It’s important to recognise these talented young people coming through now and give them as much support and opportunity as possible.  These are the people who will be building and shaping the construction industry of the future.”
