A New Career After Time Out of Work

As part of a joint employment initiative, EN:Able Communities funds an Employment Advisor at Newground Together who works to get people into work in local communities in Northern England.

Richard was referred to Newground Together by the Job Centre Plus. He had an interest in working within a hands-on role having previously spent his career in an industrial environment and as a Fork Lift Truck Operator. Richard’s main barriers to employment were his confidence, mental health, and a fairly large employment gap.

The Employment Advisor working with Richard quickly built up a strong rapport with him and found out that he had a keen interest in working in the sports industry. As he had no experience in this area, they worked together to pursue work placement and volunteer options to build Richard’s skills.

The advisor helped research local gyms and sports facilities in the area, encouraging him to approach these locations in order to find a placement within the industry. Keen to find a new career path, Richard was took the advisor’s suggestions on board, knowing that it would be beneficial to gain a valuable and strong reference in his field of interest.

Richard has now secured a placement in a local gym where he is growing in confidence every day.  With the help of Newground Together’s Employment Advisor, he has begun his journey into a new and exciting career.
