EN:Joy Riders 'Ride for Ashley' raises over £3,000 for teenage cancer charity

EN:Joy Riders triple fundraising target for Teenage Cancer Trust by completing 56 mile cycle between Efficiency North's offices in Sheffield and Hull

The EN:Joy Riders successfully completed their second sporting charity challenge, cycling 56 miles between Efficiency North's offices in Sheffield and Hull, and raising a staggering £3,106 in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Called the 'Ride for Ashley' in honour of 20 year old Ashley Winks, a Site Administration Apprentice with the Humber Construction Hub, who soon after starting work was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s cancer.

Ashley chose Teenage Cancer Trust as his nominated charity because of the great deal of help and support they have given him during his time receiving treatment at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull. They are the only UK charity dedicated to providing specialised nursing, care and support to young people with cancer.

Despite undergoing chemo and stem cell replacement treatments, Ashley, along with many of his family, attended the start, middle and end of the ride to cheer on the EN:Joy Riders.

As well as Efficiency North staff, some family members also took part in the ride, including Ashley’s cousin Sam who hadn't ridden a bike much previously, but his determination paid off and he completed all 56 miles of the journey. Additionally, Sam had organised his own sponsorship to play his part and raised £150 specially for the Castle Hill Hospital ward where Ashley is being cared for.

The ride was divided into three stages with prearranged rest stops along the route, where EN staff who were not able to complete the whole ride, could join for a section of it. In total 11 riders took part; however, the day wouldn't have been possible without the support of all our employees and their families who provided food, lifts and cheers along the way, proving that at Efficiency North 'we make it happen together'.
