Nigel Leighton joins Efficiency North board

We're pleased to announce the appointment of Nigel Leighton as independent board director.

Efficiency North is pleased to announce the appointment of Nigel Leighton as independent board director.

Nigel was previously Director of Environment and Neighbourhood Services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, with responsibility for the council’s procurement.  He brings a raft of strategic and commercial experience from 35 years in the public sector, covering not only building services but also civil engineering, housing, leisure and environmental services. He was instrumental in introducing modern procurement methods and forms of contract to the council.

Nigel was also previously Chair of the YORhub construction frameworks board.  Under his leadership the five local authorities that manage YORhub collaborated to develop the original concept of a regional construction framework into the three successful frameworks available today, delivering £1bn of construction projects in the Yorkshire and Humber region.

Nigel’s role at Efficiency North will also include appointment to the board of directors of EN:Able Build, a new subsidiary venture established in March this year.  His experience and expertise will make a significant contribution to the venture’s strategic direction.  Working with the HCA, Homes England and other local partners, EN:Able Build aims to unlock small pockets of land with developed infrastructure and serviced plots for self-build customers and SMEs wishing to enter the new build housing market.  It is intended that its innovative, alternative approach to property development will provide more homes throughout the Yorkshire and Humber region.  The company has two projects already in the early stages of development and several more in the pipeline.

Efficiency North Holdings’ Chief Executive, Lee Parkinson, commented, “We’re delighted to have Nigel on board.  His knowledge and background in the construction, development and public procurement sectors will provide an excellent contribution to Efficiency North’s strategic and corporate development at this exciting and challenging time.”

Nigel Leighton commented, “I am hugely looking forward to contributing to the future advancement of Efficiency North Holdings and in particular the development of EN:Able Build. I have already been very impressed with the way Efficiency North has grown and expanded under the leadership of Chief Executive Lee Parkinson and Chair Jackie Axelby and am looking forward to working with fellow directors to ensure future progress.”
